If you’re having a difficult time sticking to your New Year’s resolution to lose 10 pounds, there might be someone – or some thing – to blame, other than your penchant for late night snacking. New research out of Emory University, Cornell University and the University of Colorado at Boulder suggests that intestinal bacteria called gut microflora may be conspiring against you, making your store excess fat when all you want is to be thin.

We were watching Unwrapped on the Food Network last night and our stomachs were growling from the crazy-delicious treats profiled. The theme of the show was “Crazy Containers,” all sorts of tempting and uber-creative goodies like Cupcake in a Jar, Pizza in a Cone, Sushi Poppers, Pez and more.

Chicago Bears left cornerback Charles Tillman was the keynote speaker, and he shared his very personal story of how heart disease has impacted his life. In May of 2008, his then-three-month-old daughter, Tiana, was diagnosed with a condition called Dilated Cardiomyopathy; by July 2008 of that same year, after spending months in the hospital hooked up to tubes and machines and awaiting a transplant, Tiana received a heart transplant. She, her parents and siblings just celebrated her second birthday this month.
